FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Dorky Dad Designs answers common questions about pricing (materials plus $2 per hour), cosplay prop printing, supported materials and file formats, CAD design services, build volume limits, and turnaround times.

How does your pricing work?

Our pricing is transparent: you pay the cost of materials plus $2 for every hour of print time. For cosplay props, sanding and priming adds $50, and a full painted finish adds $100. Custom CAD design work is billed at $20 per hour.

Do you print cosplay props and armor?

Yes, we specialize in cosplay printing. We can print full armor sets, helmets, weapons, masks, and accessories in FDM with up to 4 colors. We offer sanding, priming, and full paint finishing services to get your prop convention-ready.

What 3D printing materials do you offer?

We offer PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, and TPU (flexible). Material selection depends on your part's functional requirements, such as durability, flexibility, or heat resistance.

I don't have a 3D model — can you help?

Absolutely. Our CAD design service ($20/hr) can create printable 3D files from your sketches, photos, reference images, or even a verbal description. We can also reverse-engineer broken parts.

What file formats do you accept?

We accept STL, OBJ, 3MF, and STEP files. If you have a different format, send it over and we will see if we can work with it.

What is the maximum build volume you can print?

Our Bambu Lab X1C printers have a build volume of 250mm x 250mm x 250mm. For parts larger than this, we can slice the model into interlocking sections for post-print assembly.

What is your typical turnaround time?

Standard orders are processed and shipped within 3 to 5 business days. Large batch orders or complex multi-part cosplay props may require 2 to 3 weeks depending on finishing requirements.
